How to Book Your Puerto Vallarta Airport Transportation

A divided highway curving through dry green hills past a yellow curve warning sign, a road a Puerto Vallarta transfer drives.

Booking takes about two minutes, and doing it before you fly is what turns the arrival from a negotiation into a pickup.

  1. Set the pickup: Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR). Add the flight number so we can track it.
  2. Set the destination. Give the hotel or the street address, not just the area. Marina Vallarta and the Hotel Zone have gated entrances, and the right gate saves ten minutes at the end of a long day.
  3. Choose the vehicle by party size and bags. The Nayarit routes are long enough that luggage space is worth thinking about.
  4. Add what you need: a child seat, extra stops, or a return leg. The first child seat is free and has to be requested at booking.
  5. Confirm. You get a fixed price in US dollars and the driver details before you travel.

Book the northern routes earliest. Sayulita and Punta de Mita are 45 to 60 and 40 to 50 minutes out, they need a vehicle assigned to the run rather than whatever is at the curb, and they are the drives where arriving without a plan costs the most.

Late flight? We track it, so the pickup moves with the aircraft and you keep 60 minutes of free waiting after your scheduled landing. Plans changed? Cancel online up to 24 hours before pickup for a full refund. Flying home, or booking a point-to-point ride inside the bay, gives you 15 minutes of free waiting after the scheduled pickup time instead, so build a little margin into a hotel collection.

My driver messaged me the day before to confirm the pick up time. She arrived on time and the journey was fine. She also showed me where to go in the airport. She was probably the loveliest driver I have come across and I wish I had cash to give her to tip.

Puerto Vallarta Airport Transportation FAQs

The questions travelers ask us most about getting from PVR to a hotel.

  • Not for an airport pickup. Article 49 of the Ley de Caminos, Puentes y Autotransporte Federal permits a tourist-transport permit holder to load passengers at an airport only where the ride is a previously contracted service, and Uber and DiDi hold no such federal permit. A ride contracted in advance, like a pre-booked transfer, is the category the law names, which is why it can meet you inside the terminal building.

  • About 6 miles, and 15 to 30 minutes in normal traffic. The spread is real: the coast road through the Hotel Zone is also the main city street, so an evening arrival takes longer than a morning one.

  • Sayulita is 45 to 60 minutes and Punta de Mita is 40 to 50 minutes, both north of the airport in the state of Nayarit. These are the routes worth booking well in advance.

  • Yes. Puerto Vallarta is a market where we can promise it: you will have a professional, licensed chauffeur, and our drivers here speak English and Spanish.

  • We track the flight, so the pickup moves with it. You get 60 minutes of free waiting after your scheduled landing at no extra cost. On a departure or a point-to-point ride the allowance is 15 minutes of free waiting after the scheduled pickup time.

  • Yes. Cancel online up to 24 hours before pickup and you get a full refund.

  • Yes, and the first child seat is free. Request it when you book, because a seat cannot be fitted on arrival if nobody asked for one.

  • The airport publishes the names, desks and hours of its authorized ground transport concessions but no rate table, so there is no official figure to compare against, and the regulated zones stop short of the Riviera Nayarit towns. What we can promise is the part you can check: a fixed price agreed before you fly, flight tracking, a vehicle sized to your group, and no fare conversation at the curb.

  • Pick the passenger band that matches your party in the fare table above and the vehicle options at the top of this page. If you are close to the edge of a band, or carrying golf clubs, surfboards or dive gear, size up. It costs less than splitting the party across two cars.

  • The whole bay and the coast north of it: Marina Vallarta, the Hotel Zone, the Zona Romantica and the southern shore in Jalisco, plus Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerias, Punta de Mita and Sayulita in Nayarit. If your hotel is not on the fare table, ask and we will quote the route.

Puerto Vallarta Airport Transfer Prices by Route and Passenger Band

Indicative fares for the routes travelers book most from PVR, ordered by drive time so the table reads as a journey outward. Prices are indicative, per vehicle, one way. Check elifelimo.com for live prices. Traveling in a bigger party? Ask for a van or minibus quote when you book, and we will size the vehicle to the group rather than split you across two cars.

RouteUp to 3 PassengersUp to 6 Passengers
Marina Vallarta$30 to $45On request
Hotel Zone$30 to $45$75 to $135
Zona Romantica (Old Town)$35 to $55On request
Nuevo Vallarta$40 to $65$75 to $145

Know Before You Go: Puerto Vallarta Airport Terminal and Arrivals Guide

The short version of what happens between the jet bridge and your driver.

  • Arriving at Puerto Vallarta Airport

    • Immigration first, then baggage claim, then customs. After customs you walk a corridor of sales desks before you reach the public lobby.

    • Timeshare, vacation club and activity desks. Some offer free transport as part of a presentation. None of them is your pre-booked driver, and you do not have to decide anything there.

    • PVR runs one commercial passenger terminal. It is walkable and partly open air, so there is no terminal letter or number to look up before you fly.

    • Past the corridor, in the public arrivals area, with your name on a board. We track your flight and hold the car for 60 minutes of free waiting after your scheduled landing.

Things to Do in Puerto Vallarta

Three places worth building the ride around, with the drive from PVR attached.

White and terracotta houses stacked up a jungle hillside above Puerto Vallarta, a small clock tower among the rooftops.

The Old Town and the Malecon

The Zona Romantica, the boardwalk sculptures and the crowned church tower are all within walking distance of each other, about 6 miles from the airport and 15 to 30 minutes by car. Ask your driver for the hotel entrance rather than the plaza; the old town streets are cobbled and narrow.

The Los Arcos sea stacks and their rock arch standing in calm blue water on the coast south of Puerto Vallarta.

Los Arcos and Mismaloya

The sea stacks off Mismaloya are a protected marine park and the best snorkeling close to the city, about 14 miles south around the bay, 35 to 55 minutes. It is an easy add-on stop on the way to a southern hotel if you tell us when you book.

Sunset over the surf beach at Sayulita north of Puerto Vallarta, waves breaking along the sand below a jungle hillside.

Sayulita and the Nayarit coast

Surf breaks, a jungle hillside and a town that has kept its own character, about 24 to 25 miles north and 45 to 60 minutes from the terminal. It is the route we most recommend pre-booking, because the last stretch is not a road you want to be finding for the first time with luggage.
